“Kataage(肩上げ)” is put in tucks at the shoulders of a kimono and make the Kimono sleeves shorter.
It means Kimono for children.
Mother pray for her children’s healthy growth and did “Kataage”.
It is also for children can wear Kimono longer. After children grow and taller and bigger, mother take off the “Kataage” and children can still wear the Kimono.
There are two meaning for “Kataage”.
-Pray for healthy growth of their children.
-Don’t waste Kimono.
Here is another sustainability of Kimono.
